It’s the middle of the night and your child wakes up with an earache. At this point, you may wish you could call a doctor to make a house call. A virtual visit might just be the next best thing!
Your health care coverage may include virtual visits, powered by MDLIVE®. Virtual visits lets you talk live with an independently contracted, board-certified MDLIVE doctor or therapist. This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week by mobile app for your smartphone or tablet, online video or phone.
Wondering how the virtual visits program works? Here are your top questions answered:
When Does It Make Sense to Schedule a Virtual Visit?
When you have a non-emergency medical condition and can’t see your doctor, or need a convenient, cost-effective alternative to a retail clinic or urgent care center, virtual visits may be the answer.
Some of the most common reasons for scheduling a virtual visit include:
- General health: allergies, asthma, sinus infections
- Pediatric care: cold or flu, ear infection, pink eye
- Behavioral health (by appointment): online counseling, child behavior/learning issues, stress management
What If I Need a Prescription?
Your prescriptions are sent to your pharmacy of choice after your visit. If you have prescription drug coverage through your Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma (BCBSOK) plan, you will have access to the same independently contracted pharmacy network in most cases.
IMPORTANT: MDLIVE doctors will not write prescriptions for substances controlled by the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), for non-therapeutic use, and/or those that may be harmful (have potential for abuse or addiction).
How Do I Schedule a Virtual Visit on My Mobile Device?
MDLIVE can be accessed on most mobile devices with an internet connection using the MDLIVE Mobile App. The app is available for download at the App Store® and Google PlayTM.
Are Virtual Visits Safe and Private?
MDLIVE offers safe, secure and confidential medical advice and information. MDLIVE is compliant with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and will share your information only with your chosen doctor and pharmacy.
How Much Does It Cost?
The cost varies depending on your plan. Check your benefit book for availability and cost details, or call the BCBSOK customer service number on your member ID card.
Where Do I Go if I Have More Questions?
Just call MDLIVE at 888-970-4081 and select option 1. Health services specialists are standing by to take your call and answer questions, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Or you can text “BCBSOK” to 635-483 to get help.
Virtual visits may not be available on all plans. Non-emergency medical service in Idaho, Montana and New Mexico is limited to interactive audio/video (video only). Non-emergency medical service in Arkansas is limited to interactive audio/video (video only) for initial consultation.
MDLIVE, an independent company, operates and administers the virtual visits program for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma and is solely responsible for its operations and that of its contracted providers.
